Sisters TodayThe Presentation Sisters have adapted and growth with the dynamic society in which they live. For many years lay people recognized sisters because of where they served and what they wore. The habit that marked the early years of Presentation life was reevaluated after the Vatican II council in the late 1960s. When called to return to the original intent of their foundress, the Presentation Sisters returned to the dress of the day, the same way Nano dressed as those she served. In doing so, the Presentation Sisters are more able to live among those they serve and come to know them. Some of the sisters continue to wear a modified form of the habit to distinguish their call to become women religious. The cumbersome traditional habit which often made it difficult to minister to those in need, however, was not practical for active ministry endeavors. Another area of evolution for the Presentation Sisters is the expansion of ministry efforts. As more lay people moved into Dakota Territory and received the necessary education to assist with the ministries of healthcare and education, the sisters were able to redirect some of their efforts to those needs that were not being met by lay people. As apostolic women religious, these extraordinary women ministry is areas as diverse as the needs of those they serve. To see a list of some of these ministries, go to Ministries. |
